Many actors have started out as models and have struggled to work their way up just to land a spot on television or in film. But while some have to go through immense efforts just to get the attention of the crowd, not to mention the casting people, others are just simply lucky to be part of a reputable modeling agency.
So what does a modeling agency have to do with the success of actor wannabes? Although a good modeling agency does not guarantee the stardom of its models, a good modeling agency is a significant factor that increases a model’s chances of getting recognized just like in the case of Tom Welling, a model turned actor who is presently leading the science fiction series Smallville.
Welling found his lucky strike when he joined Wilhelmina Models, a modeling agency created by supermodel Wilhelmina Cooper. With Welling’s good looks fused with Wilhelmina Models’ guidance, the newbie got exposed to the limelight at the age of 20, as he represented brands like Gap and Tommy Hilfiger. After three years of modeling, he landed the role of the young Clark Kent on the series Smallville, which established his stance as an actor in Hollywood.

With this achievement, Wilhelmina Models, the agency that launched Welling’s career, couldn’t be more proud for its former employee. Previously, the president of the agency even released a statement about Welling’s transformation from a teen to a man with so much potential. In fact, he wasn ’t even surprised that he earned the role.
Apart from the Smallville actor, Wilhelmina Models is also proud to have showcased other models that also turned out to be notable celebrity figures just like Grey’s Anatomy’s Justin Chambers and Lost’s Josh Holloway. Both are known to be part of top-rating television series and have acquired their own solid following.

I had a wonderful job. I worked for a big model agency in Manhattan.... When I got on the subway to go to work, it was like traveling into another world.
