There are a lot of dresses that young girls have to worry about getting. There are prom dresses, other formal dresses, dresses for school, homecoming dresses, and in my high school, we even had to get May-day dresses. Though it is always fun to go out and get something pretty and feminine, for most girls that is, there is something daunting about buying the right type of dress for the right type of engagement or event. Another time when I had to buy something was when I realized I needed to look for graduation dresses, and luckily for me, I could get whatever it was that I wanted.

I don’t know if there is a proper type of graduation dresses that you should buy, but I bought a simple sundress for my graduation. I didn’t spend a lot on it, and I used it later. It was very pretty, but it really didn’t matter too much as it was under my gown the entire time. I guess many went to parties afterwards and that was the reason why they were so choosy about their graduation dresses, but I opted for a small gathering with family because I was leaving right away for college.

 Historical Quote
A sweet disorder in the dress
Kindles in clothes a wantonness:
A lawn about the shoulders thrown
Into a fine distraction:
An erring lace, which here and there
Enthralls the crimson stomacher:
A cuff neglectful, and thereby
Ribbands to flow confusedly:
A winning wave (deserving note)The women who take husbands not out of love but out of greed, to get their bills paid, to get a fine house and clothes and jewels; the women who marry to get out of a tiresome job, or to get away from disagreeable relatives, or to avoid being called an old maid—these are whores in everything but name. The only difference between them and my girls is that my girls gave a man his money’s worth.
—Polly Adler (1900–1962)

If you want something simple for your graduation dresses like I did, you can find a simple sundress in almost any store. I found mine in JC Penney’s I believe, but you can find them anywhere, even online. They don’t have to be very complicated and they probably shouldn’t look like evening gowns. Graduation time is usually in June, and that means nice weather. Most graduation parties are outdoors, so a sundress works just fine. Make sure you take a wrap though, as it might get chilly. You may even change before the parties go too far along anyway.

What you should keep in mind when you choose from different graduation dresses is that it should match your gown if it is going to hang below it. If you have orange graduation gowns, you don’t want to have something that is hot pink hanging out from below it while you are going through your graduation ceremony. This might have been something cool in the 80s, but those colors don’t go together today, and you will stand out as a fashion victim. Instead, find something that will go with the color of your gown and that you will be comfortable in for the rest of the day or night.
