There was a time not so long ago when corset dresses were required wearing for women. You see, the corset dress is designed to enhance the ideal female form, giving the wearer an hourglass shape. People would not just wear them for formal occasions either. Wedding dress corsets were popular, of course, but a lot of folks would wear them all the time! If you wear a stiff corset often enough, it actually will physically change the shape of your body, compressing it into a more severe form. Although a lot of people find it attractive, it can also be dangerous. In the old days, women would actually have their internal organs crushed and misshapen because of wearing their corset dresses for too long.
Fortunately, those days are behind us, and good riddance! Nowadays, people just wear corset dresses for fun. They are attractive and flattering on most women, and almost never look bad on them. In addition, they are safe for you to wear provided that you do not wear them all the time. There are a few things that you have to get used too, of course, so you can't dive right into it. Don't buy a very stiff boned corset your first time. It will feel uncomfortable if you have never worn one before. Instead, you should get one which is soft and flexible, then work your way up to more advanced ones if you want to.

My sister wears corset dresses all the time, and she can not get enough of them. She actually got into them through a medieval reenactment group that she was into, called the Society for Creative Anachronism. People in that group were really into what are known as renaissance clothes. For guys, this means anything from capes, to cloaks, to tunics. For girls, this often involves dress corsets, as well as robes and other pretty, old-fashioned clothing. She actually learned how to make her own clothes for the group, and has been wearing her own costumes ever since. She does not only wears them at group get-togethers. She actually wears them out as well! Although she makes more traditional clothes, there are also plenty of modern corset dresses on the market as well. Nowadays, they come in all sorts of style, from formal dresses to club wear. No matter what you feel comfortable wearing, you will be able to find it.
